I'm not Dave, nor have I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express recently, but I have relied on the Geysers of Yellowstone through multiple editions now.

It is very useful as a guidebook, telling you what to look for with geysers that are eruptive and mixes in historical information where possible. For the majority of geysers, it will be very useful to interpret behavior.

That said, Yellowstone is a dynamic and ever-changing place and some geysers are more fickle than others, meaning interval and duration information in the book might be different than what's actually occurring. That's why a stop at the visitor's center to ask if there's anything "new" or "different" in the basins can be educational. Ditto on the spreadsheet information that is online...all of those things can "fill in" the gap between book publication and the present.
